I really don’t like it when people pedantically correct me or anyone on the classification of tomatoes. I know they are botanically a fruit but they are legally a vegetable. I used to think it was silly for our laws to contradict botanists until I realized botanists are weird. Strawberries aren’t berries, but watermelons and zucchinis are. That’s right. Zucchinis are fruits, so are cucumbers, so I suppose pickles are too. Strawberries are still fruits of course, they are classified as an “associate fruits”. So if you are one of those people who constantly points out the fruity nature of tomatoes because you think we should only refer to the plants we eat by their botanical classification, all I ask is you remain consistent. Try going around calling pumpkins berries and asking for “strawassociatefruit shortcake”. Is that ridiculous? No more so than calling a tomato a fruit.
